Make A Difference with Your Miles!

This year, I am incredibly grateful to share that I will be running the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon in support of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

My inspiration for running is my grandmother, Marilyn Maxson — “Nani” to me, my friends, and our family — and to so many others, an irreplaceable friend who inspired people to love life and live it fully. A dear friend said it best, "Marilyn changed every space she entered for the better and left each person uplifted by her presence."

In 2020, my grandmother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. What followed was a long and difficult battle — but also a journey that strengthened and inspired everyone privileged to stand beside her. Doctors initially gave her a timeline she was determined to outlive, and she did just that. She faced each day with courage, grace, and her signature spontaneity. Whether she had just finished a round of chemotherapy or received unsettling news at an appointment, she still showed up — for birthdays, for holidays, for quiet conversations, and for the people she loved most. Through it all, she expressed deep gratitude to her healthcare providers and found peace in what she called "God's perfect plan."

On November 1, 2025, God called her home and relieved her of her long-fought battle. But while cancer may have marked the beginning of her fight, it will never define how she is remembered. She will be remembered as a strong woman with a contagious, free-spirited soul. Her faith was inspiring, her loyalty unwavering, and her legacy one that will live on for generations.

On November 1, 2026 — exactly one year later — I will run the TCS New York City Marathon in honor of a battle well fought by the woman who inspired me most. I run to thank the caregivers who walked beside her and the healthcare professionals whose knowledge and strategy blessed us with five more years than we were first promised. I run to raise awareness and critical support for the women, families, and communities impacted by ovarian cancer.

The mission of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition — which I have proudly made my own — is to save lives through the prevention and cure of ovarian cancer and to improve quality of life for survivors and their caregivers. Funds raised support national programs and local initiatives that increase awareness of the subtle signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, assist newly diagnosed patients, provide ongoing caregiver support, and advocate for advancements in research.

No matter what your "why" may be, if you feel moved to contribute, please consider making a tax-deductible donation through this page. Every dollar helps turn awareness into action and hope into progress.

I am deeply grateful for your support. The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition is grateful for your support. And most importantly, the women and families who continue this fight are grateful for your support.

Let’s move forward — one mile at a time — for those who no longer have the opportunity to!
